The Road Not Taken, By Nicol Fox

Well first I would identify the different decisions I have to make. Then I would gather as much information about each decisions that can be made and research each different decision. Then I would make my choice based on the information I gathered and my own personal values and beliefs. The author Nicol Fox would praise my choice of using my values to help make a decision. I say this because in his story “What are our real values?” Fox talks about the values of Americans. Fox talks about what Americans think they value, instead of what they actually should value. For example, Fox states “It’s time that we started looking at ourselves as we really are because a healthy future will be based on reality, no on ad copy” (Fox p.122). This really …show more content…
My junior year of High School, we analyzed this poem and I think it fits perfectly with decision making. The poem “The road not taken,” in many ways supports the fact that we as people can’t always make the right decisions. A decision we make for ourselves might not be right for someone else. For example, in the people Frost states, “Two road diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less travels by, and that has made all the difference” (Frost p.184). This supports my claim because just because one path works for most, doesn’t mean it will work for you. You need make decisions based on what will help and guide you on the right path. Therefore if taking the road less traveled makes a difference for you, then take it. This is a good decision making strategy. Author Lillian Smith shares a story from her childhood. A decision her mother made still affects her …show more content…
I picked this because this describes my decision making skill very well. I sometimes think before I make a decision usually when it’s really important and can affect more than just me. But sometimes I just am. Meaning that sometimes I just do me. I make a decision based off me and only me. Usually this is only when it affects me only. The second quote I am going to pick is, “Never resist temptation; prove all things; hold fast that which is good”, by George Bernard Shaw. I picked this quote because it is true. We are taught in the bible not to fall into temptation. It’s literally in the Lord’s Prayer, yet sometimes falling into temptation can be a benefit not a sin. Meaning that some temptations are good, like choosing your own path in life. We all have temptations when it comes to choosing what we want to do with our lives. Following these can be good and can make you grow as a person. So the decision to fall into temptation is a struggle because if you are religious, you are taught as soon as you can talk that you’re not supposed to. That it’s a sin and you must repent to the Lord. I think the writers of these quotes would give me advice like, live your own life, or be your own person. I think this because that is the main idea of these quotes. To be yourself instead of being someone

Similarly Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken" parallels the concept of gaining wisdom through conflict by portraying a protagonist who has trouble with the choices he has made about his future. The speaker of the poem who is travelling comes to a fork in the road and has to choose one of the paths to follow. This symbolises the journey of life and the decisions we are forced make on our journey. The first line of the poem " Two roads diverged in a yellow wood" tells us that the speaker has to make a decision walk down one of these roads leaving the other behind.…

Whether I am deciding which college to attend, or narrowing down which sandwich to order for dinner, I must become more decisive. Acting deliberately and quickly will aid in some situations, such as when I am ordering dinner, but when contemplating life-changing decisions, I must spend more time considering the possibility. Too often, I make assumptions about subjects that I consider myself knowledgable, only to find that I was incorrect. This is unacceptable. For example, I once assumed that a college I had been considering was a plausible option for a higher education for myself.…
