In the poem, “The Road Not Taken”, the tone is very blissful, because the traveler goes on a journey that changes his life forever. In the second poem, “Depression”, the tone is extremely heartbreaking and sorrowful, because the girl is going through a hard time by herself. “The Road Not Taken” states, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- /I took the one less traveled by, / And that has made all the difference” (Frost 18-20). Reading this quote, the reader can see how happy the traveler is for being compelled to taking the less traveled road. In addition, since the traveler took the less traveled road, he now looks at everything differently. “Depression” presents, “I feel like I am useless/ Maybe I’m just not worth it” (Lopes, Frith and Lopes 5-6). To explain further, the poems both explain how whatever decision a person makes, it will affect them for the rest of their life. “The Road Not Taken” states, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- / I took the one less traveled by, / And that has made all of the difference” (Frost 18-20). This quote presents how people need to make decisions that will work for them. Also it shows that, even though people may believe the person that is different is bizarre, the decision will benefit them. “Depression” presents, “Learn from my many mistakes/ Depression is not a game” (Lopes, Frith and Lopes 21-22).
