With these very few good people, it would bring hope to the readers and characters that would be able to survive. A great example of goodness still existing inside other is when they meet Eli. Eli was a old man had survived a good amount of years in the apocalypse. At first the man and kid were unsure to trust the man, but when they brought him to their camp, they asked him for his food and weapons. He responded saying that he didn’t have any food or weapons and never had any to start with. “I don’t understand how you’re still alive. How do you eat? People give you things. Yes. To eat. To eat. Yes” (Page 170, the Road). Considering the amount of people that the son and man show, which wasn’t very much, the man would have had to of met a lot of people which for the most part were good. This is a perfect example of how people could still be good, because for the most part everyone the kid has seen has been bad. “I think you should come with me. Are you one of the good guys?” (Page 282, the Road). The kid asked this because he doesn’t know that most people were good, but in this crazy and chaotic world he just assumes most people of bad. There are a few factors that could give the reader and the novel a sense of hope. The fact that the kid is going to be safe from all the bad people that have been trying to kill him and the fact that there are still good people scattered throughout the novel apocalyptic world. Another paradigm of goodness still existing, is that the kid cares about others,
