Guido asks the son to hide, and he walked away to try to attract German soldiers’ sights so no one will discover his son. And he made it, even though he gets killed tragically. The two literary pieces of works tell different stories, but the central theme is the same that is love is the greatest thing in the world. In the novel, the son always asks his father if they can help those people who are dying and suffering hunger, but the father says no. The father does not refuse his son in such a rigid way, but tries to persuade his son by explaining their tough conditions and how he wants both of them to survive. “What? They are sent to the concentration camp afterwards. Guido does not want his son to be scared and die, so he lies to his son that it is a game that the kid who upholds to the end will have a big prize which is a huge real tank. Guido keeps adding rules for that game like kids should not shout and cry when they are hungry other wise they will lose points, kids cannot speak their language other wise they will be out early, and kids should find a place and hide well, if they do not, they will be kicked out, if they do, they will win the last prize. Because of that, the son lives a happy life in the concentration camp because he does not know the whole experience is a disaster. When the German soldiers are leaving the camp, they killed all the Jews they can find in the concentration camp. Guido hides his son in an old closet left outside, and leads the German soldiers to the other direction and got killed. His son is saved by American soldiers and found his mom after. It is the love of a father drives Guido to endure all the cruel reality, and only left a happy and warm father image in his son’s
