How do music artists increase their revenue? There are many ways music can bring money in. There are a few strings attached depending on what road you take. Some ways could possibly bring in more money than others.
Music artists get money from getting record deals. That record label takes a small percentage of your sales. When signing to record deal you are in a contract in which you agree to put out so many studio albums.

Many artists or rappers tend to take part in illegal activities. A lot of rappers were drug dealers before their music career. Most of them can’t leave that lifestyle behind. That kind of life brings in more money but they now have more to lose. The risks are higher than they were before the music career.
Some rappers capitalize off of their old lifestyle. Like famous rapper 50 Cent did with his movie “Get Rich or Die Trying”. He decided to make a movie that depicted some of the things he allegedly did. In the movie, he was a drug dealer that was trying to focus on his rap career. Many rappers turn actors because movies are a good way to bring in money.
Forbes says there are 3 keys to making it as an artist. It says key 1 is to “be okay with various revenue streams.” By that they mean that you shouldn’t try to get money one way. You should try many different ways to get money. It states that key 2 is to be weird. In a way, they mean do not be basic. Be different. Do not be like everyone else. I am not really sure about key 2 so I will just go onto key 3. Key 3 states that you have to have the right mindset. If your head isn’t in the right place then succeeding will be rather difficult. Rappers who were not successful with their drug dealing career get caught. When they get caught they are usually in a lot of legal trouble. Legal trouble usually involves a lot of money. Rapper Chief Keef lost his record deal with Interscope Records due to his legal trouble. Luckily for Keef, he made more money without the record deal.
Legal trouble can cause different thing to happen. Jail time is usually the case. Jail time for an artist can go one of two ways. One way is the Gucci Mane route, which is going to jail and still selling records. The second on is the Bobby Shmurda route, which is going to jail and basically, falling off the face of the Earth. Legal trouble could actually indirectly help some people, like Gucci Mane and Chief Keef. Or legal trouble could do what it has been known to do for years, destroy careers.
Artists that aren’t doing well will get dropped by their record labels. Record labels drop people for various reasons. If an artist turns out to be a one hit wonder, the label will cut their losses with them. Artist Trinidad James stated he lost his record deal because of him and the label not agreeing on certain things. He also lost his deal due to his mixtape flopping and not really selling. Disagreements are another reason why a label will drop
