Tattoos can cause infections or even cause the skin to look as if its rotting off. “Some tattoo related skin problems can be treated with anti-inflammatory steroid drugs, but others may require laser surgery” (WebMD). When a patron has an allergic reaction, no two reactions are the same. They have different symptoms depending on what caused the reaction. Infections can be caused by using dirty needles that can pass diseases such as HIV, and hepatitis. Some infections are treatable, others are not. This is why when getting a tattoo the precautions that are taken should be very strict. Anytime a new customer comes into the shop to receive a tattoo, they equipment should be sterilized. Needles that are used should be properly disposed of and the artist should sanitize anything that could possibly be infected with any disease or been contaminated by blood. Artist will often use water to dilute concentrated ink in order to get the specific shade of the clients request. “They may also use a pre-diluted “gray-wash” which is black inks blended together to produce different color intensities” (Health Matters). If the artist uses the gray wash, it helps make the shading process easier and the detail much more efficient. “Some tattoo artists and ink manufacturers may believe that using distilled water or reverse osmosis, a filtration method that removes large particles, is sufficient to safely create or dilute ink products, but this is not the case. Any kind of non-sterile water can contaminate the ink with potentially harmful germs which can lead to infection in those tattooed with the ink” (Health Matters).
