An estimated 700,000 Americans over the age of 65 will die of Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout the stages of Alzheimer’s, the patient’s brain is slowly decreasing in nerve cells and tissue damage. The best way to describe the deterioration is to picture a grape sitting in the sun and becoming a raisin. The grape begins to shrivel up, the hot sun creating indentations and wrinkles. The patient’s brain will eventually have been affected in all areas of the brain causing these severe symptoms and they will soon pass on.
Currently there is no true cure of Alzheimer’s disease. The only thing to help stall the disease is medication which is used to help with memory loss. To help prevent this disease it is best to keep a very healthy diet. Making sure that what is eaten is plenty of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Also, by exercising it will decrease a risk in the possibility of gaining the disease. Even just staying in strong social connections and keep up with being mentally active will help with the prevention of the symptoms. When looking at future causes of Alzheimer’s disease, head trauma is very likely to bring on the disease. So just by wearing a seat belt, using a helmet when enduring sports, and fall-proofing the home, it is a good way to avoid getting in a tragic accident that will release this disease to the
