Babies born to teens are 2-6 times more likely to have low birth weight than babies born to mothers older than 20. Prematurity is also a big thing when it comes to low weight and that can also affect the infant while growing up (Adolescent Pregnancy). Being born to a young mother can affect the psychosocial development in the infant. Children of teen mothers are at higher risk of intellectual, language, and socio-emotional delays. Developmental disabilities and behavioral issues are increased in children born to teen mothers. In some cases since the pregnancy is not really wanted and it is totally unplanned teen mothers think their life has ended because they had a baby so they begin to spank and neglect the baby.
