1. Sovereignty
a. Definition
i. Class- The common definition that was giving in class was that sovereignty is the right of the state to have country of its people. ii. Lecture- In the lectures we discussed that Sovereignty means that it has clear borders with a ruling government that that can decided any important decision or action within their state. iii. Slides- The right or the state of being of an entity (nation, state, individual) to have control over those functions and activates which occurs with occurs within it or which might directly affected.
b. Relation to State- In relation to state sovereignty place a central role because an independent nation like the United States for example is governed by the American people who control their own affairs. The American people adopted their own constitution and it was through then that the U.S government was created. They elect the people who they want as their representatives and the U.S makes its own laws.
c. Relation to global governance- In relation to governance sovereignty is important because in countries were we sovereignty people celebrate their victories as a country and important political documents like a constitution that assure their independence where as …show more content…
The evolution of definition of sovereignty: Over the past few decades we have seen the evolvement of the word sovereignty because thirty years ago during the cold war we saw that sovereignty was defined as “Absolute supremacy over internal affairs within its territory, absolute right to govern its people and freedom from any external interference in the above matters.” (Wang, 2004:473).
