The Renaissance, which means rebirth and it, paved the foundations of early modern Europe. It began in Italy during the crusades Italian cities such as Venice, Milan, and Genoa prospered from trade with the crusaders and the Muslim world. The fall of the Byzantine empire of 1453 opened more doors of opportunity for Italian merchants. Florence became the banking capital to fund trade and keep the finances of the Roman Catholic Church in order. Double entry book keeping, which is debits and credits, were invented in Florence. The prosperous trade allowed Italian cities to win their independence and they emerged as republics. Rich merchants and banking families dominated the city-states. The Renaissance brought philosophers, art historians, and literature. The art, architecture, inventions, literature have all impacted the modern world in numerous of ways. The art can still ne viewed in many places of the world today. In many history books art is still portrayed and many artist such as Leonardo Da Vinci he painted The Last Supper. This painting is in many Christian Churches today. Architecture from the renaissance is apparent today for example the Freedom Tower in Miami it is defined as Spanish Renaissance Revival. Also The Cupola it has a dome like structure at the top of the building. Inventions like the printing press derived from the Renaissance it was invented by Johnann Gutenberg from Germany it gave authors the confidence to write in vernacular instead of Latin or Greek. The modern day printer is a product of the renaissance of course It is now more developed. Literature of the Renaissance the book that contains comedies, poems and tragedies that were written by Shakespeare and his works are studied today in colleges and in public schools.
