Soviet Communism In George Orwell's Animal Farm

In George Orwell’s novel “Animal Farm” the rise of and creation of Soviet communism is portrayed in the form of an animal fable. In this story, pigs play the ruling members of society and the rest of the animals play the naive working-class. Additionally, the pigs in the novel use eloquent and manipulative rhetoric to fool the rest of the animals into thinking that they’re working for a genuine cause. This however, is not true. The main reason for the rhetoric used is to fuel the selfish desires of the pigs, so that they can continue to gain more power.

Furthermore, the like stated prior, the book portrays the rise of Soviet communism. Therefore, the two main pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, represent the struggle for power between Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin. While battling for power, both pigs intricately use rhetoric not only to get what they want, but also to influence the perspectives of the other animals. For example, the pigs had spent approximately three months learning how to read and write so that they could have an advantage over the other animals. Not only, but they also arranged a set of “animal commandments” which set certain guidelines for the animals to follow. Doing so was extremely substantial.
