As notes before, some of the Jews had gained a admiration for the Habsburg state for its progressive handling of Jewish legislation. They saw Germanization as a means for emancipation. Some Jews harbored assimilative desires, which they learned in the German schools, but also favored traditional values. They were raised in traditional homes, and still considered themselves part of the Jewish community.
