The Youth Crisis
War has been present among humans ever since prehistoric times. The world has seen many ideologies opposed and accepted for centuries. One such ideology is that of Karl Marx, communism. Communism is an ideology made by Karl Marx, which supports economic equality by disregarding the ownership of private property. Mass protests have taken place over the years between countries that are facing war against communism. America was facing a battle of communism in Vietnam, which was then divided into two separate parts, whereas countries like Chile likewise faced a similar problem among their youth involving high tuition prices. Augusto Pinochet, was President of Chile for seventeen years, ruling between the years 1973 and 1990, standing as a dictator after overthrowing Allende, the democratically elected President of Chile. The dictator wasn't seen as a good leader by many, being accused of fascism and widespread torture under his rule. Among young people, his rule was greatly affecting the increase of student debt. “For more than a year, the movement has rallied hundreds of thousands in the streets of Santiago and other major cities to demand greater access to affordable university education” ("Chilean Student Movement”). Chilean students faced a post communist government that promoted the privatization of colleges, giving freedom to rise the prices of tuition. Chilean students needed a fast solution in being revived from its newly defeated government or would face an ever rising student loan debt. The rise of tuition prices was a main cause of protests, with students taking over the streets of Chile in masses. “And we even saw some students willingly losing their academic year, many thousands of them. Communist rule by leaders such as Stalin and Castro were responsible for the many killings and deaths of at least eighty-five million people in the recent twentieth century. Involvement of young people in politics has greatly had positive effects in the past, and have changed the tide of major events. “The Communist vision is the vision of man without God” (Chambers).
