The evaluation of the story you made was well established. However, I don't think that providing or mentioning Maureen friends'' names served as boost to the story rather it was a distraction since they were not mentioned again nor the story was influenced by them. I agree that not providing the kidnapper's name eliminated any discretions from the main character. Additionally, You were able to identify all of the points, that Starkey's checklist provided, and reflect on the story.
