"Police typically are responsible for maintaining public order and safety, enforcing the law, and preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal activities." (“Police”) Officers are supposed to protect anyone and everything during violent situations that occur day to day. Police provide citizens with safety, by watching what happens, and if there is a shooting, then an officer is there to investigate and figure out who the shooter was and arrest them so they aren 't out in the open where they could get anyone. At the same time, though, police also needs safety just as much as the citizens do. Citizens are supposed to be providing protection for their officers, by following the laws and if there is a riot, they do it as a peaceful protest. After the incident in Ferguson, many people viewed the officers as “racist”. Police officers are being charged with, “...police misconduct, assaults, and even 2nd degree murder in some cases. In the Freddie Gray though he was charged with alleged police abuse” (“Investor 's Business, Daily”) Police officers are not charged because they took action to protect citizens, which in the end those citizens ended up dying. In the end, every police officer in one way or another will have to pay for the actions that their colleagues took. They may not even know that person, but they are an officer and people view them based on actions that were taken by other officers. “There are some 680,000 sworn police officers in the U.S., and in the past 12 months, every one of them has had to answer, in one way or another, for the actions of colleagues they will never meet except on the screens running the latest viral police incident, when you get resistance because of what happens in some other part of the country." (Karl 32-41) So the point is since actions were taken and a citizen ended up dying people view officers differently. Which brings the situation to if the officers had body cameras. If we think about situations that have happened where if a citizen is pulled over, and they pull out their camera phones, and record what happens. The officers begin to take offense
