Within the employer-employee relationship it is important that the rights and responsibilities of the employee are clearly defined and respected by both parties. One of the most basic and one of the most important rights you should have as an employee is that of equal opportunity. This should protect workers from discrimination whether it be sexism, racism or simply favoritism. The right to equal opportunity is a basic one that establishes fairness and mutual respect in the workplace. Another basic right that all employees are entitled too is one pertaining to discretion. The right to privacy is a fairly straightforward principle but it is something that is very important to some individuals. When confiding certain information to employers it is important that the utmost discretion be taken as to not expose people when it is not appropriate or called for. How we see ourselves, the values we hold and the goals we strive for ultimately shape the decisions we will make every day. Someone who strives to be the boss one day will pull more than his share of the weight and will continually try to grow to become that person. If you value equality, you will be the one that treats everyone fair. The things that make you who you are, and the things that you hold closest to you will influence every choice you make even in the workplace. Just as much as these good qualities make a better employee; a negative person, someone depressed or hurt may only slide by in their job. They may see the world as hopeless and not be one to strive for greatness so will make decisions that hold them down.
