“I helped my dad kill himself because he was in a tremendous amount of pain.” When anyone hears that phrase in their mind starts whirling with horrific thoughts about the person that helped their dad kill himself. They instantly think you murder, you sick human being, and feels overly sympathetic for the dead dad. But when they hear “I had to put my dog down because he was getting old and was in pain.” Murder and sick human being never even in the slightest crosses their mind. They don’t even feel sympathy for the dead dog, but only for the poor owner of the dog. Why do we think it is ok for someone to assist suicide with their dog that is living in pain everyday but yet not a human? Many people are having to live in hospital beds while they are in pain and suffering till the day they die. Assisted suicide isn’t just for anyone that doesn’t feel like they want to live anymore, there is strict protocol and restrictions to the matter. Assisted suicide is only for patients that have a terminal disease that have an estimated six months to live, and are experiencing horrendous amount of pain daily.
