I am not saying that the United States is really free, but it still is based on Democracy. The right that we always have an option to choose, from accessing our voting rights or from fighting against the government to protect our community. Through everything, whether they commit a simple crime to a more serious one, they are still citizens, as that can never be taken away in the United States. Giving them an opportunity to be welcomed back into society gives most of them that second chance they desperately want. It is time to evolve from the past; due to the long lasting adversity voting is in America. From the slavery days, to women 's rights and now into today 's society, it is time to change the way we think and allow United States citizens to vote, since it is only a matter of time before this voting right is changed. Each state is making an effort to give ex-felons a chance to vote as we seen with Connecticut and California. Granting them the right to vote is helping the foundation in which America was based on, Democracy. Giving them this right gives them the option to access a fundamental right, which is to vote. Giving them the right to vote, since most people today are voting for Donald Trump, can do no harm. This shows that past felons cannot do anything worst if they are allowed to vote. Their right to vote can drastically change America, as it causes fear to many politicians. 40,000 felons with registration cards are more of a threat than 40,000 convicted felons with guns. That 's how much of an impact they can have, as they can shift the polls in what they vote for, just like who wins the presidency. It 's hard to see someone you love and others like that person to have a hard time getting back into society. I understand why they are viewed like this since they did after all break a law. However, if they did the time and on top of that if they complete parole or probation, I do not see the problem in not granting this basic right every citizen owns.
