The Right To Privilege In The United States

The terms previously talked about are a sensitive topic for many people. Calling someone privilege may offend certain individuals, they might feel as if one is accusing them of not earning their accomplishments. However, that is not the case. Many people are naturally born into a privileged life. Race, gender, and location highly effect these things. Dating back for centuries, men are automatically more privileged than women. Men were once seen as the superior gender and women were often seen as they were meant for pleasure purpose and taking care of household duties. “Men dominate virtually every major organization and institution, from corporations to government to organized sport and religion, and for all the hype about the ‘new father’, men rarely feel responsible for domestic work and child care as their female partners do” (Johnson, 2005 p. 3). The environment a person is raised in can affect their education and life opportunities. If an individual in born into a rough neighborhood, they may not be exposed to a good education system. It also reminds people of times when we treated other poorly due to their race, religion, or sexual orientation. For years, Africans were treated as property instead of human beings with natural rights. When oppression or privilege is brought up as a topic, people are reminded of poorer times and what the human race is capable of. It is important to talk about privilege because we need to inform others on how to spread equality. Inequality is a real issue worldwide, men, women, races, religion, and many other groups are all treated differently due to their origins. Why is society like this?
