The 2nd Amendment is the Right to Bear Arms. The 2nd Amendment states “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of the Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This is a strong topic, because many people stand behind it and many people want it repealed. I located an article written by Bret Stephens of the New York Time’s Magazine on October 5, 2017 talking about repealing the 2nd Amendment. He has several arguments in his article. His opening paragraph he is talking about the view from a law-and-order standpoint and he says, “States with higher rates of gun ownership had disproportionately large numbers of deaths from firearm-related homicides.” His next paragraph is talking about from a personal-safety standpoint and states, “From a personal-safety standpoint, more guns means less safety. The F.B.I. counted a total of 268 “justifiable homicides” by private citizens involving firearms in 2015; that is, felons killed in the course of committing a felony. Yet that same year, there were 489 “unintentional firearms deaths” in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Between 77 and 141 of those killed were children.” In his article he talks about the active shooter situations that have gone on in the United States in the past couple of years. The latest active shooting he talks about is Stephen Paddock the active shooter that killed approximately 59 people and injured 527 as they were in Las Vegas attending a country
