The Second Amendment

The Second Amendment, the right to bear arms is a controversial topic. Our society seems crazed with the idea of owning semi-automatic AR-15 or military grade M-16s. While anyone who possesses a valid Firearm Owner Identification card also known as Foid, along with a clean and clear criminal record, can own any style of arsenal that they desire in the great state of Illinois. Most people who own firearms, use them to protect theirselves and loved ones as a form of self-defense, hunting or just recreational use. Although not completely effective, it certainly gives people a false sense of security, fighting something with a gun is better than, fighting something with nothing. Those who one could say have never seen the inside of a hunters safety course book or a conceal and carry course. If Chicago was armed with citizens who new how to safely and properly use a gun effectively, I believe we would see an overall decrease in violence in Chicago across the boards. I don 't value the life of someone who is participating in drive by shootings, killing Innocent people. If they were to die at the hands of an armed citizen, I wouldn 't lose any sleep over it. I am not saying relaxed gun laws in Chicago would solve the cities violence problem but at the same time has anything worked yet? A good guy with the right training is more effective than a bad guy with no training at all. 80% of all homicides in Chicago are gang related. They have the strictest gun laws in the United States, yet the gun laws have done no good. Guns are only the scapegoat for real issues, "on average 1.3 million people die every year due to Cancer and heart decease opposed to 34,000 due to firearms," (Other Causes) you do the math. Gun control is not wrong, I believe that everyone should be held at a certain standard, if one can not display the mental capacity to own a gun, their rights should be taken away. It 's as simple as that, violent crimes and drug crimes should disqualify you from ever owning a gun. Whether for protection, hunting, sport shooting, you have every right to own, and use a gun as long as the freedom of others is not
