Right to Bear Arms How many Criminals care if they have a concealed carry before they commit a crime? No criminal is going to make sure they have the right to carry the gun in their possession before they decide to go out and commit a crime. “U.S. crime justice department took a survey that found that 79% of state prison inmates that carried a firearm putting them in jail came from an illegal source” (Stewart). Taking away the right to bear arms will not reduce the amount of crime in the U.S. Taking the right to bear arms away is only punishing those who do right. The percent of legal guns purchased to use to commit a crime is very small, the correlations do not properly add up. Many people believe that taking away our right to bear arms will reduce the amount of crime committed, and in some ways that is true, but also in other ways it’s not. Criminals are still going to commit a crime whether they have the right to own that gun or not. Taking away the right to bear arms is taking away part of the freedom of the people. “The right to own the weapon of your choice in your home may be taken away” (Darling). People have the right to own conceal and carry as they wish. Taking away the right to bear arms will not drastically reduce crimes committed with a gun. “The D.C. handgun ban provides that an unlicensed private person may not carry a pistol from room to room in his own home” (Babbin).
