Curley wants to shoot Lennie in the guts after he finds that Lennie killed his wife in the barn. After he finds out Curley starts chasing after Lennie “I’m goin, he said I'm gonna shoot the guts outta that big bastard myself, even if I only got one hand.I’m gonna get im. (Steinbeck 98). This supports the argument because it shows that if George didn’t kill Lennie then he would have suffered at the hands of Curley. Curley was going to shoot him in the guts and getting shot in the guts is worse than getting shot in the head. When you get shot in the stomach you will bleed out and it will take longer for you to die then being shot in the back of the head. This also proves that George is protecting Lennie because he doesn’t want Lennie to …show more content…

After George says that Lennie started to get mad and George tries to explain what he was saying “No look I was jus foolin Lennie because I want you to stay with me”(13)This supports the argument because it shows that George cares about Lennie and isn’t willing to lose him because George knows he needs him but even though George knows he needs Lennie he makes the sacrifice in shooting him . George is protecting Lennie because even though George might turn into a regular old ranch hand he doesn't want him to

George did the right thing at the end of the book because Lennie was a threat to everyone around him and if George did not kill him sooner, he would have killed more people later on. With Lennie’s strength and size, he overpowered anybody that he faced and because of the mental state that he was in, he could not control his power remarkably well and that led to many tragic outcomes. For example, “And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck,” (91). Since Lennie cannot control his power, it causes him to do things that he never intended of doing. George did the right thing by killing Lennie because, locking Lennie up wouldn’t have been better, he put Lennie in a better place, and Curley would have killed Lennie violently. Other people claim that George should not have killed Lennie because they were friends and killing Lennie would make their friendship pointless. If George wouldn’t have killed Lennie he wouldn’t get to stay at the Ranch he would have had to leave since he was tied to Lennie. Also, if George wouldn’t have killed Lennie, they could have gone off somewhere and started over trying to achieve their goal of the…

If two friends have a relationship that is this immensely close, they should never betray one another. This means that no companion should ever cut the other’sskfjdlsk life short. Although George taking Lennie’s life away with a nonviolent method was for sure better than if it was taken cruelly and painfully by another man in John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men,” the novel could have not resulted in a death that would haunt Lennie’s friend/killer forever.…

George knew he had to take Lennie's life himself or he would have a painful death, that was not something he wanted for Lennie. George taking Lennie's life was him stepping in and being the caretaker that he has to be for Lennie and protecting him from the other guys. Even though some people may say it’s wrong that George shot Lennie, he had to do it. George would have hated himself for letting them do it and Lennie suffering. One reason that George was justified for killing Lennie is because Lennie would have gotten himself into even more trouble and would have gotten himself killed somewhere else, and that is even if he made it out of the situation he was already in, which he would not have.…
