The French and Indian War which took place between 1754 and 1763, was one of the causes of the American Revolution. This war between Britain and France ended with the victorious British deeply in debt. In order to pay off this debt, taxes were imposed on the colonies without their consent. Several tax acts such as the Stamp Act and the Townshend Act were passed in an attempt to pay for the war.
