In conclusion, the latest film ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ (2014) has advanced in motion picture (CGI), which made the film more realistic and fitted into pop culture. It also captured audience’s eyes in some scenes and brought to light modern society conditions relating to human corruptions. The original ‘Planet of the Apes’ (1968) script structure was not creditable and lost interest throughout the storyline, such as visual effects (CGI) and lack of performance, which lead to a parody genre film rather then being a serious science fiction genre film. There were also some unneeded characters and other storytelling methods to present the narrative because it bored the audience and made it more of a Mockumentary. The twist conflict at the…

A serial film is an extended motion picture broken into a number of segments that was shown before the feature film. How would one incorporate the style of a comic book to interest comic book readers and integrate a normal style to interest people who have not read the comics into a poster? How would one create the poster to seem like a fun little film before the actual event and have people come to see it? It seems to me that the purpose of this advertisement was to tell moviegoers about the new serial film and to convince them to go see it. During this time, World War II was coming to an end so the use of this American symbol, Captain America, was a way to maintain high moral for the war and to encourage and inspire the people to keep donating…

The Jungle and The Grapes of Wrath share a common theme of corruption. In The Jungle, you see a version of trickle down corruption. Corruption was found from the top political bosses trickling down to the small businesses. This made it close to impossible for a poor man to have a chance in Packingtown. The Grapes of Wrath was morally corrupt.…

My argument is that ISIS is an issue that needs to be addressed and taken care of. My goal is for my audience, Chattanoogans, to see the billboard and petition for action to be taken against ISIS affiliates, and thus, ISIS inspired attacks. Because ISIS is such an imposing force worldwide, they are causing claimed direct attacks as well inspired attacks (those not enacted by ISIS but rather those who support the group). Therefore, I chose the word “affiliates” in my text to recognize that distinction between the two. Moreover, I chose my call to action to be “petition” because it is a reasonable action that most people can realistically do easily.…

Due to victories in the west during the war by Ulysses S. Grant, President Lincoln has given Grant control of the Union army. Many southern leaders believe that giving him total control over the union army by making him commander will be a grave mistake that Lincoln will regret in the future. Grant earned his place at the top of the army by doing whatever Lincoln said, and by the reckless captures of forts Henry and Donelson. Also by capturing the capital of Tennessee, and wouldn’t stop in any of the battles even if it meant killing most of his own forces. Lets not forget the time Grant had a siege on Vicksburg nothing went in or went out, because attacking the city, and killing plenty of innocent people wasn’t enough no he had to starve…

Is Ghostbusters (2016) a racist, sexist movie? While researching the topic of social responsibilities of popular culture creators, I found the ongoing backlash against the rebooted movie Ghostbusters (2016) a vivid example. Long before the official Ghostbusters trailers were released, controversies against its casting, storytelling and production had already been heated on social media. Bringing together two sources in this essay, an review article by John Nolte and the official poster of Ghostbusters (2016), I will present one example of society’s concerns about the movie’s sexism and racism through analyzing rhetorical strategies used in the two sources and how the images presented in the poster was interpreted and responded by Nolte.…

Within any film, the score has a major impact on the final production. No matter how impeccable the plot is, the casting choice, and the special effects are, the movie will not have quite the impact that the director envisions, unless if there is a perfect score used in a film. Although it is often overlooked by many, including me sometimes, music within movies is crucial to further the mood and energy in a scene. In the film Raiders of the Lost Ark there are many scenes that are full of action, adventure, and danger in which John Williams tastefully furthers by creating such a wonderful score. Even though moviegoers often overlook it – the perfect movie score will further the emotions and moods of the audience members that are happening in the scene without taking the attention away from the action.…

In his personal essay, “Captivity”, Sherman Alexie develops an intriguing view on the complexities of the relationship between Native Americans and European Americans, criticizing Caucasians for hypocrisy and fight for power between the two. His many examples comparing the relations between Whites and Native Americans in his essay, while formidable to producing his argument, are helped significantly by a metaphor presented through the mentioning of Mary Rowlandson, a historical figure who was held captive by Native Americans. Alexie’s argument as to the counter productivity and fear produced as a result of race is brought to light partially through the historical reference to the character Mary Rowlandson, reversing roles where instead of the White person being captive, the Native American is. The introduction of Mary Rowlandson in the piece isn’t until the third section,…

From looking at the painting it is clear to see that the man is seated at a table with his elbows rested on the surface. His two frail hands are folded together and pressed against his forehead, as if he is bowing his head in prayer. Placed on the table in front of him is a loaf of bread with one end cut off, a bowl containing liquid of brown color, a knife which is right next to the bowl, a thick bible with a green cover, and laying on top of the bible is a pair of glasses folded, laying upside down. The wall beside the man is a brown color with light reflecting on it.…
