In the gospel of Matthew, we see the account of the Lord’s transfiguration. Jesus had only chosen Peter, James, and John to go up on the mountain with him to experience this special moment. I believe the statement, “When they looked up they saw no one except Jesus” has a dual meaning. Yes, the open vision had ended and no one else was around, but it also implies they esteemed the Lord much higher than they ever had before, their focus was now directly on Jesus, who is the center of attention. We see another example in the scriptures which helps us know how to conduct ourselves when the Lord is present. After the resurrection, Peter had been talking with Jesus, and the Lord asked Peter three times if Peter loved Him. This was a deep cleansing session that was taking place within Peter. Peter had denied the Lord three times during the hours leading up to the crucifixion. Now that Jesus was resurrected and raised triumphant, He was reversing the curses Peter brought upon himself by asking Peter three times if he loved Him.
