Restoration Development In my job shadowing experience, I have observed Shawn Hooker from AM/PM Restoration Company. His job title with the company is Project Manager. “Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements” (Varajaoa & Cruz-Cunhac, 2013, p. 3342). He handles supervision and management of the restoration projects by directing of all the field activities. He is the person that showed me how the restoration world revolves. I have worked at AM/PM Restoration Company for some time now, which has allowed me to become interested in this job position. Shawn has been working for AM/PM Restoration for more than six years. He started as a technician and worked his way to becoming a project manager. He made the decision to invest in himself and received his Bachelor’s in Management. He took extra training classes and received his certification on mold and asbestos remediation. Shawn oversees field technicians, supervisors, subcontractors for the accomplishments of the projects and subprojects. First, he schedules an appointment and goes to the property to meet the customer. Second, he bids the job and provides a Xactimate estimate. Once the client has approved the scope of work, he is ready to begin. Before proceeding with the job, he makes sure that the job has a work order and all the permits in regulations. Then, Shawn manages the project schedule and assigns the equipment and materials to complete the job. Finally, he verifies that all the work is completed within the industry standards by going to the job site. I know that I would be a good fit for this job position because I am studying Management. Also, I have worked with Xactimate providing bids and estimates for customers when supervisors are too busy. Being out on the field with Shawn was an exciting learning experience, it allowed me to see how much more I want to become a project manager for a restoration …show more content…
Most people who seek a restoration company is because a disaster has occurred, such as flood, trauma, fire, mold or trauma remediation. Shawn tells me, “the best reward this job can give someone is customer satisfaction knowing all your customer are content” (Hooker, 2016, personal communication). According to Pitagorsky (1998), explains, a successful project manager satisfies its clients within time and cost constriction (p. 7). The biggest obstacle Shawn faces as a project manager is time management. Shawn explains to me, “working for a company that is 24/7 can interfere with his personal life”(Hooker, 2016, personal communication). Shawn never knows when an emergency call will come, but he must always be ready to handle any situation. In additional, Shawn must have organizational skills and interpersonal skills to continue growing and competing with other restoration companies. Statistics show that successful projects are eighty percent based on learning experience, thirty-three percent is based on time and forty-one percent is the cost (Jansen & Nelson, 2009, p. 143). I am on the right track with my Management degree and this job allows me to see the business side of a restoration company. I would be perfect as a project manager because my previous jobs have all dealt with customer service. I am a people person, which it would allow me to win jobs and

One thing that stood out to me about this interview was that you needed to have good “counseling skills” to help clients make decisions about new hair styles. Roes points out that plumbing requires a attitude of craftsmanship, problem solving, knowledge of materials needed to get the job done, and having a ability to “see the whole picture”.…
