People may find it shocking that a Subway commercial would give into the sexist portrayal of women in Halloween costumes. The commercial is conforming to the new social norm that women should dress with sex appeal on Halloween. Halloween is no longer seen as a night to dress-up in creepy costumes. The media is emphasizing on more and more on the cuteness of costumes rather than the creativity. Even the naming of the costumes as “Sexy Nurse” and “Hot Devil,” portray this new view of Halloween. Each year costume companies come up with more and more revealing costumes, which puts a stress on women to stay fit in order to look desirable on Halloween. Subway is reflecting how the present culture is becoming increasingly sexualized, image based, and consumer driven. …show more content…
