In 1975, about 5,000 students had participated in interdisciplinary projects that provided students with experiences in primary care settings(Baldwin, 2007). The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), provided interdisciplinary experiences for medical and other professional students and continues to do so to this day (Baldwin, 2007).
