There are many different types of sacrifices one makes throughout life, the first one being personal sacrifice, the second one being group sacrifice and the last one as societal sacrifice. In the novel The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan, the 1996 movie Romeo and Juliet directed by Baz Luhrmann, and the article Does Love Involve Sacrifice or Compromise? by Aaron Ben-Zeév this is the reoccurring theme. In these three works the theme of love plays an important role. Love conquers any hatred Romeo or Juliet had with the other family. It is what makes them strong and conquers all and they are even willing to sacrifice everything for the other to be together. An example of this from the movie would be in Act Three, scene one, Tybalt and Mercutio are insulting each other and thrusting their swords as Romeo arrives on the scene. He has been merry with joy because of his marriage to Juliet. Tybalt wants to fight him, but Romeo declares only love for Tybalt. When Romeo is about to leave, Tybalt then stabs Mercutio from under Romeo's arm, and then runs off. After Mercutio’s death Romeo gets enraged and devastated and he than engages in a battle with Tybalt and he dies. In this scene love and sacrifice go hand in hand because if Romeo had not loved Mercutio as a friend he would not have come in the way which may have allowed Mercutio to die faster. And after that Romeo may not have gone to kill Tybalt if he did not love Mercutio as family. Another example of this would be in Act Three, scene two, Juliet anxiously waits for the time to pass so she and Romeo can celebrate their wedding. The Nurse arrives and makes Juliet aware of someone who has died. There is confusion at first because at one point Juliet believes that both her cousin Tybalt and Romeo have died. Once the Nurse clarifies, Juliet's first response for the man she loves is hatred …show more content…
by Aaron Ben-Zeév published on Psychology Today talks about what love involves. "Sacrificing your happiness for the happiness of the one you love is by far the truest type of love." -Unknown (Psychology Today). This quote talks about how love requires sacrifice rather than compromise and when this happens it is the strongest and the best type of love. With this an individual feels compassion and this is why they do this in the first place. “According to Romantic Ideology, love is frequently described as involving sacrifices and resisting compromises. In reality, the situation is typically the opposite-relationships require fewer sacrifices and more compromises...”(Psychology Today). It is believed that we need sacrifices to love, whereas in reality we need compromises to love. “To sacrifice is to give up something in order to gain or maintain a valuable relationship or some other worthy cause...”(Psychology Today). This why we say women sacrifice their careers for their families. Romantic Ideology has some aspects that are common with religious beliefs, the term "sacrifice" is frequently used in romantic contexts as well. Intense love has no qualms about making considerable sacrifices. The realm of sacrifice is in the actual realm; the realm of compromise is in the possible and imaginary realm. This is because one cannot sacrifice anything without having it in reality and compromises can be changed to be more

Romeo and Juliet: The Tragedy of Identity Identity is a distinctive part of every human being, and is initially formed at the very beginning of one’s life by their name, and further molded by their surroundings. Such is the case of the doomed lovers in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Characters in the play rebel against their identities, by pushing through boundaries and tearing away labels and stereotypes, in order to achieve the things they desire.…

The Importance of Setting and Context in Romeo and Juliet In spite of the fact that Romeo and Juliet is ostensibly the most original romantic tale in the English language, it depicts just a particular sort of affection: youthful, nonsensical, enthusiastic love. Romeo and Juliet shun their duties to any other individual, acting benevolently just towards each other. Sexuality pervades the play, both through indelicate jokes and in the way that Romeo and Juliet foresee fulfilling their marriage, however it doesn 't characterize their affection.…
