The Renal System: The Urinary System

The Renal System, which is also known as the Urinary System, is made up of the kidneys, urinary bladder, urethra and ureters. The kidneys play an important role in the Renal System; they filter the blood in order to eliminate waste and produce urine, maintain the body’s fluid balance, make hormones as well as balances the levels of some of the chemicals in the blood. The urinary bladder, urethra and the ureters together make up the urinary tract. The urinary tract acts as a drainage system because it drains the urine that comes from the kidneys, stores it, and then releases it during the process of urination. Usually, bacteria are the most frequent cause of Urinary Tract Infections because the bacteria can conquer the body’s normal defenses which can cause an infection. But usually the bacteria that go into the urinary tract are quickly removed by the body before they can cause any symptoms. UTIs often result from bacteria that are found living in the bowel. E. coli is the bacterium that causes a great number of UTIs. Mycoplasma and Chlamydia, infections that can be sexually transmitted and the treatment of sexual partners, are microbes that are able to contaminate both the urethra and the reproductive system. The urinary tract is made up of systems in order to help prevent infections. Most of the time Urinary Tract Infections are not significant but sometimes the infections can lead to major problems like a kidney infection. Chronic kidney infections and acute kidney infections, on the other hand, are very serious infections. Chronic kidney infections can cause long-lasting damage including poor kidney function, high blood pressure as well as other problems. Staying hydrated and drinking a lot of liquids can help cleanse out the bacteria from the system. You can also prevent UTIs by urinating often and also when the impulse arises. When urine stays in the bladder for a long period of time it can cause bacteria to develop. Men and women should urinate after intercourse in order to cleanse the bacteria that could have come into the urethra while having sex. Wiping from the front to the back is also important when trying to preventing UTIs. Clothing also plays a role in prevent Urinary Tract Infections. Tight fitting clothing like jeans should be evaded because they confine the moisture and allow the bacteria to develop. Loose clothes and cotton underwear should be used because the air near the urethra will remain dry.
