The Renaissance was a time period that happened around the year 1600, just for the sake of a good round number. That was decades and centuries after Plato and Socrates, years 399 to 450 B.C., who were the greatest philosophers the world has ever known. Even still is the Renaissance after Beowulf in the year 100, A.D. or C.E. The Renaissance is like a phoenix, the mythical creature that dies and is born again from the ashes. Also described as Rebirth, Enlightenment, and Rediscovery, the Renaissance was a time where the people of Europe began to revert back to the school of thought that Plato and Socrates had worked to make. As described earlier, the human spirit was awakening to find, the world was far vaster than anyone had ever imagined. Many countries began exploring every which way they could. Many were on voyages to find India by sea route, the land route was fine and dandy, but littered with bandits who lurked about waiting to raid precious stores of expensive items. Marco Polo had begun to explore young, his uncle was an explorer and told him all about his travels. There is some debate about whether or not Marco actually sailed or not. Christopher Columbus the famous man who “found” America. He was in fact looking for India, but found North America, a completely different continent (Hub Pages, 2013). Vasco De Gama was the explorer to find India, and chart it, or create a map to it. Maps were becoming very valuable, but with one error, travelers looked at stars for help directing themselves and surly on open sea you would too, but how does one see the stars during a storm? You don’t, that is why an invention called the ‘astrolabe’ was invented to help sailors find dew north (Hub Pages, 2013). The Renaissance was a huge ordeal that caused major outbreak in society. An honest to God “to be or not to be” if you please. To be Catholic, or Protestant? Or maybe even just a scientist who told God that he didn’t exist! The revert back to ‘ancient’ philosophical thought caused many Renaissance period writers to format their themes to love and challenging authority. The Renaissance ignited a hunger for exploration, fed the fires of a new religion, and nurtured the educative process of science and
