Essay 1 I believe that the Renaissance was a bridge to modern society for many reasons. Some of those reasons being that many inventions created during the era are still used today; advances in science, art, and literature; and the reformation of religion that helped shape today's churches. These factors helped the Renaissance influence, or build a bridge to, modern society. Inventions created during the Renaissance are still used today. For example, the pencil was made during the Renaissance after graphite was found in a mine. Some other examples are the toilet, the printing press, and prosthetic limbs/eyes. The toilet was created by, the godson of Queen Elizabeth, Sir John Harington in 1596. Discouraged by friends, John ceased production, but the toilet would help lower disease spread. This helped books be printed increasingly faster than usual because most books were handwritten. The printing press helped the expansion of literature through the Renaissance period. Finally prosthetic limbs and eyes were developed by Ambroise Pare in about 1529. Before this when doctors amputated limbs they had nothing to replace it with. Ambrose also created prosthetic eyes, which was one of her most popular invention, in the colors gold and silver. Lots of advances were made in space knowledge. Scientist like Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo, and Isaac Newton all made important advances in space science.
