By looking at the reasons to why people would cheat, it would give researchers, counselors and therapists a better understanding of the subject. And by having a better understanding of the subject preventative measures could be taken to stop individuals from stepping out on their spouses. By seeing the patterns and causes it would allow a decrease in infidelity. Out of the 230 participants 35% were male and 65%were female. The people in the study were inhabitants of Mississippi and others were random from the Internet. The feedback from the participants was that 74% were married, 20% were divorced and 6% were widowed. The questionnaire given allowed the respondents to fill out if they had an affair in their marriage. The questionnaire defined what infidelity was because individuals may have different opinions on what cheating in a relationship is.
