As a Christian, who has confessed my sin to Jesus Christ, claimed the gift of Salvation that He has given me and have surrendered my life to Him, I am no longer under the law of the Ten Commandments but under God’s grace. I still make it a goal to obey the Ten Commandments, not to earn my way to heaven, but in response to the gift of salvation I have received from the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.
As a follower of Jesus, I no longer try to live for myself but for him. As I follow Jesus and am lead by His Holy Spirit I seek to live a life of holiness. Paul confirms this when he states in Galatians 2:16-21,

When Jesus spoke on the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, he tells us that they mean even more than we understanding them to mean. If we lust we have committed adultery and if we have hate towards someone then we have murdered. Jesus is telling us that no matter how hard we try to perfectly keep the Laws of God that we will always fall short. He is also making it clear that God is as concerned about our heart and our actions. I cannot treat the Laws of God as a checklist to see how I am performing. The truth is the commandments are a list that I will never, ever, be able to accomplish on my own, apart from the Holy Spirit helping me to follow Jesus every day. I will never be able to get this right because of sin. The Law and Commandments of God is a reminder to me that since I can never get it right, someone had to get it right for me. This is where my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation that I have received helps me live a holy and obedient life for
