True friends should stick together no matter the circumstances. This especially applies to situations where are each other’s only family. If two friends have a relationship that is this immensely close, they should never betray one another. This means that no companion should ever cut the other’sskfjdlsk life short. Although George taking Lennie’s life away with a nonviolent method was for sure better than if it was taken cruelly and painfully by another man in John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men,” the novel could have not resulted in a death that would haunt Lennie’s friend/killer forever.…

Friendships are symbiotic relationships, where people share their talents and qualities to help each other through life. The novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, exhibits many forms of these two-way relationships, the strongest, between the characters George and Lennie, and the other friendships between Crooks and Lennie, and George and Slim. These relationships show how each pair benefit from each other’s companionship, and help each other in the harder times of life, the most important one, being the friendship of George and Lennie. The first and strongest two-way relationship shown in the novel was between Lennie and George, who share each other’s talents and abilities to fulfil each other’s needs. Isn’t it odd how relationships can drastically different than how we first perceive them? This is precisely the situation between the two characters, Lennie and George, in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. Although George initially appears to be Lennie's companion, as the story progresses, it becomes apparent that George is much more like a parent. George will often direct Lennie on how to act, treat him similarly to a child, and is undeniably defensive of him.…

In the book George shows his friendship when he always tried to look out for Lennie's well being whether he liked it or not. For example, when George took the dead mouse away from Lennie, he only did that because he didn't want Lennie to get sick from the diseases the mouse could have carried diseases (Steinbeck Page 6).
