The Reformation has many effects on the western worlds development. It led to an explosion of literacy and economic growth in the regions that adopted Protestantism. In areas such as freedom, education, and economics, it produced noticeable differences. Many of the Judeo-Christian freedoms enjoyed by people today come from the Reformation. Freedom of religion came solely from the Protestant side of the Christian church. In addition, freedom of speech comes from the evangelicals. The Protestants have shaped tolerance in the west to what it is today. The rest of the world, in contrast, was rife with intolerance.
