The Reflection Of Words In Rocky Balboa's 'Creed'

The Reflection of Words In the movie Creed as he was pointing towards Adonis’ reflection in the mirror, Rocky Balboa said “that’s the toughest opponent you're ever going to have to face.” This is a relatable quote because this is true in every aspect of life. It is not a lack of intelligence or creativity; that is just an excuse. I know personally that my biggest barrier is myself. Many people in today’s society do not excel in writing because of the discipline it takes, the rules are not properly taught, and there is a lack of confidence and desire. As a child, I had no desire to read or write. I have often heard that to be a good writer, you also have to be a good reader. When I was a child, my father always wanted me to read in the back …show more content…
If something isn’t taught properly, this could affect that child the rest of their life. For example, in the previous sentence, the word ‘affect’ was used, and it is a common grammatical mistake to use the word “effect” instead. Certain grammatical rules such as that were not enforced in my earlier years of education, which has impacted my writing today. This has affected my writing tremendously and caused me to make thoughtless mistakes involving spelling, punctuation, and grammar. As a child, I remember my teacher becoming impatient with my class because we would not give her our full attention. She would become very upset, and this greatly affected how she performed as a teacher. We, as students, were also affected by her impatient attitude, since she was not being the best teacher she could be. Instead of her working with us and taking the time to teach us the skills we needed, she would become impatient and ended up not devoting enough time to writing skills. This was true for several teachers I had in my early school years, which is when it is most important for students to build a solid foundation of writing skills. If students don’t build this strong foundation they will make the same simple mistakes the rest of their …show more content…
The idea of writing terrifies me and I dread every paper that I am assigned for a class, and many others feel the same. I love to excel in everything I do in my life. For example, I am very passionate about wrestling. Wrestling takes lots of disciple and is mentally tough. I overcame the mental struggle it takes for wrestling it was a long and hard process but I eventually conquered it. For writing, I have not been able to do this. When I write, I feel as if something is holding me back. Many do not have the interest to write, and I, too, am one of those people. However, you don’t have to be a professional to write an amazing piece. I think writing can be exciting and interesting if the topic is about something you find

As children, we are taught that the ability to read is important and are even required to have a period of silent sustained reading. There is an implication that reading is always literary, however, there isn’t one specific subject that is tied to reading. I’ve read history books, books about animals, encyclopedias, anything to just read. Not only did it deepen my passion for books, it helped me develop my writing skills. I gained knowledge from the books that I read which evolved into writing my own stories.…

Writing would never be called my passion; however, if the topic of interest is thought-provoking, writing can be pleasurable. I have always been exceedingly critical of my writing, and I have a bad habit of producing your standard “five paragraph with five sentences” essay. High school was the true test of my writing skills, mainly because I had to take the ACT and SAT with writing if I wanted to get into the only Georgia school that I thought was up to par with my standards: The University of Georgia. Even though my teachers have considered me to be an acceptable writer, I have always considered myself rather subpar. This insecurity about my writing has haunted me throughout my life, and I have this feeling towards writing mainly…

I believe that I have the potential to be a good writer, as I wrote a seven-page research paper on the way children are becoming more intelligent with the use of the internet, as they have the ability to look up an answer to a question they do not know anytime of the day. I had an easy time writing the paper because we went over everything that needed to be in it beginning with an attention grabbing thesis and ending with a powerful conclusion. I flew through writing the paper, which made me confident that I was going to get a good grade (and I did), it made me feel that I had improved my writing abilities. I also had to write an analytical paper comparing Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to a modern day problem in society. It was more difficult to write compared to the research paper because I had to compare it to a difficult read.…

What writing means to me and why I prefer to shy away from it, until now. Being an Adult Learner, having been out of school for more than 30 years my weaknesses outweigh my strengths. My greatest weakness in writing, I would have to say is my spelling and use of grammar. I have recently been diagnosed with a slight learning disability which explains my problems with spelling and grammar. Having 4 children who I am very close too helps alleviate a huge portion of my inhibitions about writing, that combined with the newer technologies of programs like MS Word and other programs like it that have spell and grammar check help me in my daily writing needs.…

Project #1: Literacy Narrative I remember walking across the lawn from our tiny add on classroom, up the stairs, and into the second grade class. Walking to my assigned desk directly in front of the window, I sat down in front of my best friend. Sometimes, sleepy and tired, I stared at the giant oak tree in our school yard and watching the clouds move. My first experience with writing was in fourth grade.…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…
