Single-Perspective Reflection

Great Essays
1. The purpose of this research paper is to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to incorporate research into a single-perspective argument. For instance, the introduction and body of this paper are drawn partly from the Exploratory and Positions paper. Although there are many perspectives on the issue, I just need to focus on a perspective, which seems to be the best according to me. Moreover, this paper also applies the principles of all the argument I have discussed and learned in this class. I need to use all of the argumentative writing skills, such as building ethos. It helps me to utilize critical thinking when discussing a controversial issue. I cannot use bias and 1st position such as I,me,my in this paper. …show more content…
Working with my peers helped me to recognize which my writing strengths and weaknesses was to improve. Moreover, they were also helpful to give my advice and ideas about my papers. They also pointed out what I need to rewrite or develop in my paper. In addition, they played an important role in reviewing my draft and prepare me a complete final paper. I extremely appreciated all the compliment and also the disagreement from my peers because it helped me to know what I need to improve more. They also had a fair view about my issue, so they could point out my mistakes to correct.
7. I spent about a week on my paper. In the first day, I reviewed my previous papers. Moreover, I also highlighted what I was wrong in the previous papers, and then corrected it. After that, I started writing my introduction and body by using portions of the Exploratory and Position papers. I also went to the tutor in school to get more advice. I also found more sources to use in the rebuttal and the conclusion. After doing the first draft, I went to the tutor again. I totally took me one week to finish the final

This writing process is very interesting. At first, when I wrote the Issue Proposal, I had no idea what to write about. My score on this paper was also low. I could not imagine how I could write 5-6 pages for the next essay. However, after finding the information for the prewriting essay, I had more things to come up with in my paper. I found that the Prewriting Essay is very necessary for me to prepare for my Exploratory and Position Papers. Therefore, my score also gradually improved through these paper. Overall, after finishing many essays, the final project seems to be easier to me. Spending time for these paper is extremely

I’ve chosen to focus on “Exploration and Argumentation” as the subject of this reflective introduction, specifically looking at my argument paper, “Abortion: Right or Wrong?” as a reference to the importance of this learning outcome. I chose to focus on this particular learning outcome because it was the most difficult essay for me to create. While writing this essay it was difficult for me to understand and reciprocate the opposing viewpoint. Understanding an unfamiliar idea and giving ideas for or against a topic is key to creating a fluent argumentative essay. It must collaborate your own ideas along with viewpoints that you have researched in a concise manner. The application of exploration and argumentation is essential to creating an…

Even though my contributions to the intellectual life of the class might have not been the best I believe that they were helpful not only to me but to some of my peers. Specifically in the peer reviews, I felt that those were crucial to the class, because every student had the opportunity to read and analyze another’s paper. By giving helpful criticism to someone else 's paper we were all receiving a new view into the type of essay we needed to be writing, therefore giving our own essays a new point of view to revise with. Consequently, peer reviews helped me learn to communicate better because I really wanted to give constructive criticism that my peers would find helpful towards improving their essays, so that I could also receive some in exchange. For example in the last essay I wrote one of the critics that I had was that one of my paragraphs was all wrong and that it really just did not mean much. Therefore, I went back and completely rewrote the paragraph and I felt so much better for it, thank you to that…

According to Hacker and Sommers’ in “Constructing Reasonable Arguments”, taking a stand on a controversial topic, swaying the reader with evidence and analysis, and citing all sources used within an essay are the stepping-stones to produce a well manufactured argumentative essay. The main goal is to persuade the reader to choose the writer's side of the argument over the opposing side in an informative way. Arguments happen everywhere all the time, which means there is more than one way to look at an issue. It's recommended to research the debatable topic and look at it from multiple angles. An efficient way to present a position is to treat is like a court case and provide the reader with as much evidence to sway them while addressing any…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…

I worked with another classmate named Autumn Nicholson. We both started looking at several topics to analyze. We both came to the conclusion that the best choice for us to analyze was a social commentary about a girl battling brain cancer. This analysis had many outcomes we needed to cover. Throughout our paper we covered genre, the primary audience, purpose, and situation. We analyzed all of these thoroughly throughout our whole paper. These outcomes helped us build off our paper, and make it a stronger piece of writing. In addition, with knowing more background information about each outcome really helped us go into more detail, and express our point that we were trying to get across. In addition, we also took our topic into a more meaningful matter. We did a lot of research for our paper, and that helped bring out more knowledge and understanding for the analysis of our paper. Collaboration can affect writing in many ways. In this piece of writing, working collaboratively really helped us reach a stronger base to start our paper. We each wrote our statements for each section, and then took out the strongest points in each of our drafts for our final paper. It all flowed really well together. We had some questions we were not sure about throughout our paper, so we visited the Center for Writers multiple times to get some feedback, and make our paper meet its criteria. This paper was the start of my peak, and gave…

In high school, I always struggled when we would conduct a research paper. Mainly, because my teachers never taught me how to conduct research correctly, and write a research paper. On the “Synthesis Essay,” I received a letter grade of a “B.” I attended every research session in the Carmichael Library, and Mrs. Washington guided me with my first proper research paper. I learned how to gather evidence and research from our school’s library database. My evidence was supported and my research was supported, however, my explanation were not as supported as they should have been. I learned to research for evidence, and from that evidence I formed a stance, and later, an argument. After writing the “Synthesis Essay,” we began to write our “Academic Argument,” papers. The evidence and research from the previous essay helped us form academic arguments. This experience helped me form a solid argument that was supported by academic research from scholarly articles, blogs, and news blogs I read. I formed a paper that was well supported with…

I never really had a good experience with peer-review back in high-school. It was mostly used as a time to mess around with classmates and do other stuff besides working on our papers. Needless to say, I wasn’t really looking forward to it. Once we actually got around to peer-reviewing I found it surprisingly helpful. I was able to get a lot of useful information from my partners on how I should improve my paper before turning it. They helped correct my grammar, structure, and help me brainstorm of other things that I should include in my paper. After, I was able to help them with their paper in the same way they did with mine. This wouldn’t of been possible without them, and I am glad that they did such a great job of being on time with sending and reviewing each others…
