Improved Essays
The lesson began with 4 students seated at their desks, facing the SmartBoard. Ms. Rogic handed out copies of “Scholastic News” and put the article up on the SmartBoard. She explained to the class that they were going to learn about summarizing, but that they were going to review some of the things they learned in their last class from the scholastic news article they read. Ms. Rogic then displayed a picture of a mudskipper on the SmartBoard. One student, Malik, raised his hand and immediately called out that the picture was a mudskipper. Mrs. Rogic told Malik he was correct and then asked the class if anyone could remember a fact about the mudskipper. Malik and Jake raised their hands. Malik was called on and recalled that mudskippers “can be left on land.” Ms Rogic told him, “Good! So what is special about the mudskipper?” Malik shouted, “Amphibians!” Ms. Rogic …show more content…
Ms. Rogic had a worksheet on the board and helped the class to fill it in. She then had them copy the work on the board onto their own paper with the same template. As students worked, Ms. Rogic walked around the room and checked their work.

Planning and Preparation:

Ms. Rogic utilized highly effecting planning in her lesson. She had prepared Powerpoint presentations prior to the class, and had worksheets and Scholastic Newspapers ready for her students prior to their arrival. Her SmartBoard and ELMO were ready for use before the class began, and her transitions from one activity to the next went quickly.

Environment:

The bell rings again and the day begins. A few class periods go by before any teachers spark up a conversation. By 3rd period the teachers are talking. Mrs. Flo, Mrs. Beth, Mr. Green, Mr. Mathew, Coach Kenny, and Miss Morre all are down the same hall, and we know that these groups don’t mix. Mrs. Beth had paid Mr. Green to grade some of her papers from a few weeks ago, as Mr. Green was returning the papers for an exchange of $35. Coach Kenny just happened to catch this out of the corner of his eye. He’s not too happy about this. He shouts, “Hey! What are you two doing? Why is she paying…

Before the students came to the classroom, I placed their morning cursive worksheets on their desks. Mrs. Jackson gave me a copy of her lesson plans for the week (which she must hand in to the principal every Monday morning by 8:00). Today Mrs. Jackson did not greet the students at the door, but worked in her classroom as the students came in. Mrs. Jackson began the class by introducing the website, www.pearsonsuccessnet.com to the students. This is a website that goes with their reading book, which students can log on to at home to practice vocabulary words, reading stories, and taking quizzes. Mrs. Jackson went through this week’s vocabulary words with the students, while I cut out the vocabulary words and posted them on the classroom…

Teaching students to speak up and to participate without worry. To see kids playing but only when told and asking questions that were not from their imagination, but from what they seem to believe that the teachers would accept. With finally showing proof that teachers would not want to encourage, for they themselves are being pressured to only teach what they are mainly paid to do. This is important for the reason to be because the system needs to pull back and understand the students thoughts and not subjugated them to only be empty bodies who’s main purpose is to follow orders and never question their instructor. Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning, however, it may never be lit if the flame was never there to begin…

Turner’s Kindergarten class. I walked in the classroom with a better understanding, vibe and vision about teaching. I like how Mrs. Turner continued to work on the family book sentences that the students created the other day. That technique helped with repetition so that the students would remember how to form complete sentences. With Mrs. Turner incorporating in the dry erase books the students get a visual picture of the actual word. Even though Mrs. B wasn’t a part of the dry erase sentence classroom activity, she was helping the students review on their learning in the back of the classroom. After speaking to Mrs. B about the seating arrangements and learned about the technique that they were trying to use to see if it will succeed. The new seats arrangements are an experiment to if certain students are going to benefit and learn better if they are surrounding around students that are advance so they can piggy back the knowledge. Overall, I had a wonderful time observing Mrs. Turner’s Kindergarten classroom during these pass 7 weeks; I definitely hope that when I become a teacher I can a use her methods and techniques that Mrs. Turner and Mrs. B. used in my own…

This library is loud the students are flustering and distracting each other. After the head librarian leaves the students’ excitement from their freedom is causing an uprising. Before we lose the battle the other tutors and myself, quickly approach each table to remind students of their environment. Strolling to my station I stop mid stride and peer over my shoulder. A student that I frequently work with is shifting in her chair and fiddling with her phone. Asking if I can join her at the table I smile. As I run the numbers on her paper through my head, she sits back continues to play with her phone. Turning to her I ask “where did this two come from?”. Bewilderment draws across her face as she describes her reasoning. She pauses and begins to blush as she says “I forgot to distribute”. As she works through her last few problems we smile and discreetly cheer for her accomplishment.…

The present day role of the teacher in instructing and educating children has evolved such that teachers are no longer simply machines with the goal of delivering information to the students (Lusthaus et al., 1992). They are now given the chance to deliver this information in a way that benefits every child (Lusthaus et al., 1992). Moreover, this information they receive not only informs them about class material but also helps them become individuals who may enter society with the goal of treating everyone with respect (Carrington, 2006). There are now numerous instructional methods that teachers can incorporate into the curriculum which are designed to help a wide range of students’ learning styles (Lusthaus et al., 1992). With these new methods, the teacher can create a more inclusive classroom environment. For instance, with the use of Response to Interventions (RTIs), teachers are now given the opportunity to monitor their students’ progress and understanding of the class material all throughout the academic year (“National Center on Response to Intervention”, 2010). As a future teacher, I would use RTIs with the goal of monitoring my students’ knowledge and offering them all different resources so that they could understand the class material to the best of their…
