Introduction It is no secret that writing, whether professionally or as a pastime, is one of the most daunting tasks that faces not only native English speakers, but also those who use English as a second language (Jimenez, Esmeralda, Mira, Rodriguez, & Stephany, 2013). Not only does this difficulty encapsulate grammar issues, but also provides creativity, one of the rarest abilities innate in most prolific writers. This is a little bit scary, especially considering that much of the information available to us today has been preserved merely by virtue of writing. For many student’s, writing presents a constant battle with ever-changing requirements, methods and techniques. The end result is that many students end up camouflaging their writing

These workshops are based on one key factor – time, whereby every student gets the opportunity to showcase their writing skills. In such a setup and environment, it is almost impossible for students to hide their writing weaknesses, just as it is impossible for them to suppress their core strengths. If writing workshops are implemented regularly and consistently across the student’s study and learning trajectory, the end result is complete exposure to the writing process culminating in proficiency. This paper describes and analyzes my personal experience with writing workshops. Not that I am unique to the extent of being a loner, but just that it can be very stressful to determine who among your schoolmates shares most of your interests. I can confidently state that the writing workshops to me have provided the opportunity to meet, mingle and interact with a variety of students, learn their interests, share mine and collaborate on the formation of ideas. Before the workshops, I always wondered why writing had to be such a boring and individualistic culture. It turns out that I am not the first to detest just how solitary writing can be. Indeed, when asked why they did not complete school writing assignments or failed in English composition, many students always argue that writing takes much of their time which they would rather be utilizing differently. However, what I have discovered from the writing workshops is that writing can indeed be fun and interactive with minimal isolation if it is in the company of those with whom one shares common interests. It is much easier to talk about ideas and relate them to multiple events to form a large and detailed picture. In short, the writing workshops to me have been a haven for the nurturing of my creative thinking skills that I have found to be extremely helpful in improving my writing
