The Role Of Hope In The Great Gatsby

Hope is defined as the feeling to desire something that may happen or to look forward with desire and reasonable confidence. Bluntly, hope is something that you believe. But, once you believe something that never happens, it becomes a delusion. The delusion is a belief in something despite the fact that it’s completely untrue. Hope is an ambition; something that one must have control over. Once it has been let go the obsession begins to take control making life a continuous battle of searching and grasping for the thought that once was there. As Willy and Gatsby willingly step foot onto the ring of apparition, they come bearing a shield of embodiment. In both texts Fitzgerald and Miller use hope as a roll of evolution. It continuously goes on and never stops. As Willy and Gatsby have the rudimentary skills to give up at any point and time, they choose to pursue their dream that will leave that one mark of remembrance in the end.
