The Red Kayak is a novel by Priscilla Cummings. The setting in The Red Kayak is important for several reasons. The first reason the Corsica River is where the story takes place, the second reason is a major key because 8th at is the location where Brady’s friend Ben died, another reason the setting is important is because Digger’s grandfather’s farm which the, DiAngelo's bought and built a mansion on the land, which made Digger so upset that he freaked out and drilled a hole into the kayak.
The setting is where the story takes place and if there wasn't a setting then the story would be really hard to follow, uninteresting and you wouldn’t have a visual image in your head. By providing a setting you get to understand the area which explains why they are there. For instance, you might want to know where they live if they lived in a gated community, poor location or rural area, or what their finances might be to help explain the setting. The financial part of the setting for the reason why Digger freaks out when he was told his grandfather’s farm was sold to the DiAngelos, he had to sell it because his family had a financial problem so they could no longer afford the farm. It was also a bad idea for the DiAngelos to build a house in that area because it was really a poor area so it was hard for the Digger to watch them destroy his grandfather’s farm. Digger was torn with mix emotions from sad to becoming extremely. He did not know how to redirect the pain that he was feeling. So instead, he took out his pain from the stress of his parent's jobs and the loss of the farm by bullying in friend TJ and worst drilling a hole in the kayak which caused it to sink and kill his friend Ben. If he knew how to manage his anger and pain Digger probably would not have drilled the holes and become a
