The Red Death Analysis

The fear of dying as been around forever the thought scares and provokes fear. Many readers are chilled by Poe with his gothic horror. The three stories I read showed gothic horror and related to death. Fear is shown in his stories like if you were really there to experience it yourself. The Red Death was chosen because it peaked my interest on how Poe would show a world affected by a plague. In the story Poe really out did himself. The Red Death showed that no matter how fancy the house, clothes or food one cannot escape the fact we all die and can’t escape death. Throughout the whole story the Prince believed that having extravagant things and his stunning castle would safeguard him from The Red Death. In fact, death can’t be escaped not even by the Prince who thought of himself safe. “When he chases the unwanted guest through the rooms it showed the journey of life.”(Paragraph 10) Also the rooms in the castle ran east to west this was to show us the stages of life we go through with the black room with red windows to be the end of our journey. In this story the narrator and Dupin are calm at the scene of the grisly crime. In the story when he brings a gun into the mix this scene displayed the readiness of death and builds up suspense. Even though the killer appears to have superhuman strength and there is a possibly of death for the narrator and Dupin. The lack of any motive made the killer appear to be nothing more than a cold blooded killer. (Paragraph 19) The system of Dr. Tarr and Profes. Fether was chosen because it sounded interesting that the patients upraised and that this was a political short story written by Poe. The characters in this story really did not relate the theme of death in any way I could find. It related gothic themes like the way walked toward the loony house.
