The Red Balloon is a surprisingly interesting story with a sad ending. Although some children may see it as a happy ending, for me it’s a complex feeling. This movie is about people wanting others to conform to the norm and shows how being different alienates people because others envy them.
Watching this film made me remember some my childhood fantasies and realizing how over time this feelings and fantasies have slowly started to fade into the corners of my mind in order to conform to the norm. Watching the boy protecting the balloon was touching. At the end, when the balloon “dies” it was meant to show the end of the boy’s childhood, but when the balloon army comes it symbolizes that it’s okay for the boy to be different
