Most of the time, domestic violence occurs when someone in a family member such as a spouse becomes violent towards their spouse or kids, and creates a pattern of mental and physical abuse, which can happen to anyone and have long-term affects. Even if it happens from time to time to anyone in a family in these situations, women are more likely to be victims of domestic violence. However, sometimes the situation can be reversed, meaning that women can also abuse men. Unfortunately, men are not as likely to be considered victims of domestic violence, making their suffering even worse. Domestic violence can cause a major problem for anyone to evacuate their home and can cause injuries. Therefore, this problem leads abuse victims to be homeless; rather than change a home but to be safe and stay on the street without their family. Although sometimes when a spouse is evacuating the children are most likely to become homeless with the abuse victim because there is no federal help to assist an abused spouse in covering expenses while the abusive spouse leaves the house. According to Johnson, there is also a disadvantage in most states for a woman who is abused if she wants to exclude her abuser from the home. However, a couple of states help women after the partner evacuates the home (6). So this study shows that women are more likely to be homeless when they experience domestic violence instead of staying in the home. This is one of the major causes that escalate the number of homeless individuals. Additionally people who experienced domestic violence need to get proper help from the government to decrease homelessness.
