In the passage, On Military Matters by Anonymous author, the author talks about multiple reason the military had issues and one about other nations coming into to power and attacking the Roman Empire. In this passage the author writes, “Above all the it must be recognized that wild nations are pressing upon the Roman Empire and howling round about it everywhere, and treacherous barbarians, covered by natural positions, are assailing every frontier” (Document 7). The Asian barbarian tribe, the Huns, first began their barbaric warfare on Asian nations in the east when they started to attack the Chinese which was one of Rome’s trading partners. This cause a fall in the trading products and materials that Rome had been using and relied on. Before the Huns were completely unsuccessful in attacking China they began to direct their attention to the West and started to cause problems for the Roman Empire (Document 2). With the push of the Huns in the east of the empire, the next unexpected enemy came down from the north, the Goths. This Germanic tribe was powerful with the use of their ships where they were able to sail up rivers and able to get through areas most bigger ships would not. With all the attacks and no steady leader to help rebuild the empire, as it was being destroyed, this would have caused another reason for the fall of the empire. As one of the most powerful empires at the time, Rome was split in corruption in who receives power, which was often based on how much money some has in the empire.
