My Love Of Film Essay

The reason for my love of film does not at first come from the actual moving image, I am interested in the communication that happens afterwards. Films give me a source of connection; through use of social media, I can create a platform online where I can voice my opinions and enthusiasm with people all around the world. I have been able to build communities online of groups of people where we are all united by our love of a particular film. I really want to immerse myself in film, gain knowledge in the theory and context behind films and the power it has to bring people together. Often I visit London to go to events to meet actors and see live shows from which I then comment about online. A favourite event I attended was a Q&A with the English actor Tom Hiddleston at the Nuffield Theatre. Going to events shows that I am actively researching and appreciating the film industry. I am able to see actors who I take great inspiration from and learn from them how they see films and what it means to them. Due to the rise of social media, films don 't finish when the credits roll, they are continued on various forms of social media by interaction of fans. It’s this communication that really contributes to my love of film and media. My voice on social media will be very beneficial to my studies. From studying Fashion, I achieved an understanding of fashion design, development and production. These skills can be transferred to film production. I have learnt the important of researching from primary and secondary sources, using critical thinking to develop my work, and then creating a final outcome. I have also gained skills in PR and marketing. The link between art and film is so strong and crucial to my personal interest and studies I find it really important when art is used to give especially with political and social views, showing that art isn’t just something to please the eye but also to question and gain knowledge from. The brand Maison Margiela has been a great influence to my creative work. The brand has a strong emphasis on creating controversy and pushing boundaries to showcase certain views. My favourite artist is Matthew Gray Gubler. He is lesser known for his artwork as he is foremost an actor but he has produced some amazing drawings of story-like creatures in an imaginary world he has created called "Gublerland". He really inspires my illustrations with his scratchy, messy and childlike drawings. As well as being an actor and illustrator he is also a director. The combination and connection between film and art I find so fascinating and is something I wish to immerse myself in at
