The nursing profession continues to grow in prestige as the medical field advances. Because nurses are with their patients more frequently than any other hospital employee, they play a major role in the care and rehabilitation of their patients. Nurses are responsible for both their patient’s physical and mental well being, which can become a far more intricate task than many imagine. Despite the many challenges nurses face everyday, professional nursing remains my career of choice. Past experiences with pediatric nursing has influenced my chosen career path. As a nurse, I plan to positively affect patients while demonstrating the attributes of respect and communication evident in Florence Nightingale 's theory of nursing.
Throughout my life, I have always had an interest in the medical field; however, when I was younger, I was unable to explain why. As my life progresses and I continue to gain experience, it has become evident that my desire to become a professional nurse stems from my childhood best friend’s diagnosis. Witnessing a close friend build strong bonds with her nurses inspired me to want to want to develop similar bonds with future patients. My exposure to childhood health care in two different settings drove me to my current nursing interest of pediatrics.
