The Real Narcissists Article The Real Narcissists was written by Rebecca Webber. This passage touches on a few topics like narcissism not being as wide spread through out the population as people make it seem, the difference between what narcissism is and is not and how many people label it, and are narcissists born that way or made into one through out their life. There are many other topics, but these are some that interest me and I’d like to talk about in my article. The first topic I'm going to discuss is What Narcissism Is and Isn't. Most people are more Narcissistic at 18, 19, and 20 than they are at the age of 40. A twin study showed that Narcissism was a heritable trait. The disorder could also develop early in life. Another study showed that dramatic, attentions seeking pre school children were most likely to end up a Narcissist adult. Other things that could cause this development is parenting styles, the influence of other relationships, and a persons social and cultural environment. A person with high self esteem differs from a Narcissist. A child with affectionate parents that use phrases such as, "You did a great job," opposed to, "You deserved that prize more than him/her" or "Why didn't you play more like him/her?" A parent of a Narcissistic child raises them to think that everything in life is a competition, with the mindset of if there is a winner and a loser, they must be the winner.
